HISTORY OF SCHOOL

The earliest piece of information about school dates from 1409. Elżbieta Granowska from the Pileckis, next the queen of Poland, helped the school to be created. The school was located at the hill, behind the Jan Chrzciciel and Jan Ewangelista church. The level of education at the school must have been quite high because a lot of people studied at Cracow Academy (now Jagieloński University) in the 15th century. What is more, in 1490 Jan from Pilcza became the chancellor of the university. In the 16th century the difficult period for school came. Fortunately, at the beginning of the 17th century the owner of Pilica, Stanisław Padniewski helped to restore the school. Moreover, he also decided that the proffesors who wanted to teach at school in Pilica must have been the graduates from Cracow Academy. After the war against Sweden, the school received a new building consisted of two rooms. At the end of the 17th century even children who were 5 years old learned at this school. However, the number of students was rather low- only 34 pupils. When Poland was an annexed territory, the school was parish and co-educational. Moreover, the school year lasted from 11th November till Easter. Pupils had to study religion and learn how to write and read. In 1817, school district belonging entirely to Pilica  was created and elementary school for Jewish and Christian children was established. The inhabitants of Pilica were supposed to  maintain the school. It is worth knowing that parents who wanted to send their children to school must have had their own house, but there couldn’t have been more than two children from one house at school. There was also Sunday Craft School where students were taught the particular craft profession. In addition, after regaining the independence local public elementary school was formed. Władysław Jeleń ( whose tomb is at our cemetery) managed this school. Thanks to Feliks Borysławski four-classed co-educational high school  was formed. It was situated in Zawiercianska street and 100 students were taught there. There were also courses for the adults. It was private. Doctor Zygnunt Pyrowicz, Eugeniusz Stolarski, Helena Wilczakówna, and the priest  Mieczysław Froelich were proffesors there.

In 1920 Pre-Junior High School was closed because the fee was too high. In 1921 7classed public school started functioning during the II World War. From 1939 to 1945 the school was supervised by Nazists, that is why secret classes had been opened. The classes were led by Janina Graniecka, Kamila Jędrzejewska, Zofia Kozielska, Anna Pyrowicz, Feliks Kwiatkowski. In June 1947 National Commune Council decided to build a new school and chose a school building committee. It consisted of Władysław Zonfk – the commune head and 10 members.

On 1st May 1948 - National Commune Council authorized a committee to buy building grounds for school from Helena Arkuszewska.

The Council of National Commune accussed the Cracow School District of Education for  organising fourth class of the new type primary school. It functioned all the time. The classes took place in the Pilica’s palace and in Senatorska street.

The new school has been opened on 1st September 1956. Stanisław Borek became the new headmaster. It was built of stone and brick and the roof had been covered with the red tiles. Inside, there were 15 classrooms, 2 cloakrooms, 3 administrative rooms, 2 labs, a gym, 2 common rooms, a library, a bath with 9 showers, a dressing room, a doctor’s office and a room for manual work. It was called Szkoła Ogólnokształcąca Stopnia Podstawowego i Licealnego.

The primary and the secondary school had been separated on 1st September 1967. From this time there were 8 classes of the primary and 4 classes of the secondary school. Both schools were located in the same building till February 2006. In the 1970s our primary school functioned as the borough school.

In 1999 the Ministry of Education introduced the new division into 6 years of primary and 3 years of grammar school.

Since 1st September 2006 sports classes have been formed. Children from Pilica, Zarzecze, Biskupice, Kocikowa, Wola Kocikowa, Smoleń, Złożeniec attend to our primary school. Teenagers, besides the mentioned villages, arrive from Dzwonowice, Dzwono-Sierbowice, Sierbowice, Szyce, Siadcza, Solca, Kidów, Przychody, Sławniów, Dobra, Kolonia Dobra and Szypowice to attend to our grammar school.

In recent years the school has changed its look. The roof and the windows have been changed. The gym, classrooms and corridors have been redecorated. The new, colourful chairs and desks have been bought. There is a new, modern gym. The school has excellent sports facilities, like the soccer, the volleyball, the basketball, the beach volleyball fields, the tennis court, the track and the playground.
